Wii Light Always On - Wii Connect 24

A couple of people have mentioned that when their Wii is not being used, the standby light stays on and occasionally the blue led (inside the Disc Slot) lights up and flashes.

The Wii Connect 24 service is designed to keep your Wii up to date with new messages, system updates, latest news, weather etc. The console stays connected to the net and downloads whatever it needs when it is available.

If you shut down your Wii normally (by lightly pressing the power button on your controller or the console) the power led will show amber and will stay connected to Wii Connect 24.

If you shut down your Wii completely (by holding down the power button on either your controller or your console) the power led will show red and won’t be connected to Wii 24. You will not get any blue flashing when the Wii console is completely shut down like this.

You can also turn off the blue light from your Wii Connect 24 settings.

As an aside, I am looking forward to the Wii News Channel going live - here in the UK it says you need to perform a system update to access it, but that is due to it not available yet.

  1. Lucky people with Wiis! My mate’s trying to get one for her son, all the shops are sold out, none for sale online and she nearly got ripped off by a scammer on ebay! Me, I’m not planning on getting one myself!
